One of those people that will read a book over and over at different times in her life and take something new out of it every time.

A review. By Maithili Pamwani; one of those people that will read a book over and over at different times in her life and take something new out of it every time.

I’ve never personally known someone whose written a book before, so it was very exciting to get a signed copy delivered to my home. I attacked it immediately as I’m quite the voracious reader, one of those people that will read a book over and over at different times in my life and take something new out of it every time.

Why someone chooses a certain path in life has always intrigued me, especially a path that seems completely beyond their immediate life and circumstances. Therefore stories of those directors that have not grown up in a film family, had no real exposure to films barring the occasional outing to the local movie theater really made for an interesting read for me. Brave people that came to the big bad city to start their struggle led only by their love for the movies, passion to make a mark and most importantly a belly full of stories to tell.

We read so much about the actors, their lives, some of their struggles but what of the story tellers themselves. The ones without whom there would not be a movie. Those that really bring the characters to life on screen, weave their magic and have us enthralled for a couple of hours in the story, in the visuals and in the life of the characters that sometimes leave us gasping for more.

Rakesh has put together a motley group of directors from the old timers like Subhash Ghai, who was way ahead of his time and made iconic films like Karz and Meri Jung, to Imtiaz Ali, Anurag Basu whose next movies I am waiting to watch.

I look forward to reading Rakesh’s and HarperCollin's Volume 2 of Director's Diaries, it would be interesting to see which directors he puts together this time and like so many other books in my life I bet I’ll pick up Directors Diaries again and again at different times in my life to get inspired, have a chuckle or just believe again that dreams sometime do really come true.
